Time Value of Money (TVM)

powerOne calculator's TVM template includes the standard entries and connects to the Amortization Schedule. It advances upon HP versions by integrating interest conversion into the template, offering you the ability to calculate when payment and interest periods per year do not match.

Amortization Schedule

Easily view single or multiple period summaries with Amortization. Data includes Payment, Interest, Principal and Ending Balances.

Mortgage with PITI, Analysis

The Mortgage template offers what-if analysis for fixed rate mortgages. It includes not only the ability to calculate loans but also includes PITI payment summaries, balloon payments, amortizations, APR, closing cost estimates and more. Not available on HP calculators. Included as a paid add-on for powerOne for Palm OS and Windows Mobile.

Cash Flows

The Cash Flows template includes easy data entry and eight (8) analysis modes. The analysis modes include NPV, IRR, NFV, NUS, and Total, which are available in various methods on HP calculators. powerOne also includes profitability index, Payback, and Modified IRR. In addition, powerOne offers integrated periodic conversions for interest rate adjustments.

Bonds

The bond calculation advances the HP standard by including monthly and quarterly coupon payments.

Depreciation

The Depreciation template includes Declining Balance, Straight Line and Sum of the Year's Digits calculations. It also includes Declining Balance crossover method and handles partial year calculations automatically.

Percent Change, Percent Total, Discount, Margin and Markup

powerOne supplements the traditional HP versions of Markup, Percent Change and Percent Total calculations with Discount and Margin templates specifically designed to eliminate confusion over which Markup method to use. In addition, powerOne includes additional outputs such as the Difference and Average, depending on the template, and options to quickly move to next or previous periods for additional calculation.

Breakeven, Sales Tax, Tip

Integrated Breakeven, Sales Tax and Tip calculations are popular additions to the staple of business calculations available only with powerOne calculators. These are not available on HP calculators.

Date, Interest and Unit Conversions

The conversion templates show all results on one screen. Use Date template for fast days between dates conversions. Use interest to quickly convert between periodic and continuous rates. Use area, length, volume, mass and temperature to convert between common U.S. and metric units.

Input Modes

Calculators generally have one of three input modes. One includes chain calculations where you see one entry on the screen at a time. Another is RPN, where entries are added to a stack and then math is performed on the items in the stack. Different HP calculators perform each of these. So does powerOne Finance for Palm OS and Windows Mobile. The most popular input method, though, is algebraic. Used by programs such as Excel, this method entails entering an entire expression and then evaluating that expression. The calculator in powerOne for BlackBerry smartphones uses this method.

Powers, Logs, Trigonometry and Probability

powerOne includes various calculation functions beyond basic mathematics. This includes powers (square, power, roots), logs (anti-log, natural log) and probability (factorial, combinations, permutations). It does not include trigonometric functions such as sine, cosine and tangent.

Solving

Solving is the process of entering a single expression and being able to evaluate any variable within that expression. powerOne for BlackBerry smartphones does not currently include that capability. powerOne for Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices includes a very powerful solver for creating custom templates. The HP17b includes this ability as well.

Email Results

Once a calculation is performed, it is often necessary to share those results with clients and colleagues. Only powerOne for BlackBerry smartphones offers this capability. Through a simple to understand language, template values and formulas can be merged into an email message and instantly sent to clients and colleagues.
